Requirements / Undergraduate Handbook

Over the past year, we've discussed and approved several changes to our undergraduate degree requirements. Some of them were prompted by a transition to the KU-CORE scheme of general education requirements. Others follow changes in other departments' course offerings and numbering schemes -- our first two calculus-based courses have seen some changes as well. Finally, a few programmatic changes (in physics and/or astronomy requirements) have been approved.

You may be eligible to adopt the KU-core for your general education requirements if you started at KU in the 2012-2013 academic year. If so, you will have until mid-July 2014 to "opt in" to the Core; you should already have been notified of your eligibility. Students starting at KU in fall 2013 or later will follow the KU-CORE.

The links on this page will take you to portions of the most current Undergraduate Handbook, in PDF format with some annotations to help cover the range of cases outlined above. Paper copies of the handbook (minus the color and additional annotations) are available to majors and other interested students in the department office, 1082 Malott. If you have an earlier undergraduate handbook and wish to abide by the rules outlined in it, hang onto it for reference and comparison or follow this link to the Pre-FALL 2014 versions of the Handbook listed below.
