Tenure-Track Assistant Professor The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kansas
invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor
level, expected to begin August 18, 2008. The successful candidate is
expected to have: a Ph.D. in Astronomy or Astrophysics by the start
date of the appointment, and a demonstrated record for research in the
observational study of galaxies and/or the extragalactic universe that
will complement ongoing research efforts in astronomy and astrophysics

Currently eight faculty are involved in some aspect of astrophysics
research, including astrobiology, galactic astronomy, plasma astrophysics,
cosmology, and astroparticle physics. KU has a 40% share of the ULTRA
1-meter telescope operated remotely on Mt. Laguna outside San Diego.
Faculty are expected to develop strong, externally-funded research programs
that involve undergraduate and graduate students. Successful applicants
are expected to demonstrate a commitment to quality teaching at all
levels. Salary is competitive with those at other research universities.
